In only its second year of existence, #GivingTuesday brought together more than 10,000 nonprofit participants and garnered more than 269,000 tweets to kick off the giving season on Dec. 3, 2013.
#GivingTuesday is a national movement for the creation of a dedicated day of giving on the Tuesday following the shopping days Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Nonprofits use the #GivingTuesday hashtag on Twitter to link their holiday fundraising campaign to the national giving conversation.
