"Help! I finally got an interview, but the employer told me I'd have to do the interview via Skype! I don't know what that is, and I don't have a computer!"
We've heard this a few times recently from our library customers who are job seeking. If this is you, or might be you, relax.
Traditionally, job interviews have been face-to-face, or even on the telephone. Now, however, more employers are leaning toward video interviews, to save travel costs or simply for convenience (that is, for the employer).
Skype is an online tool that allows you to call, see, or just message others. Many features are free, including video calls.
If you get the opportunity to do a video interview, most of the rules are the same. "Arrive" early, dress professionally, and research yourself and the company before the interview. It's also a good idea to make sure you can connect with the software before the actual interview. If using Skype, make sure your account is set up, and do a test run with a friend if possible, so you know what to expect.
