Meet Victor Gischler, author of “Vampire A Go-Go”
These days, vampires are everywhere – from Stephenie Meyer’s popular “Twilight” saga to Bram Stoker’s classic “Dracula” novel.
Sink your teeth into the multiple meanings and implications of the vampire mythos at “Novel Talk: Literature With Bite” from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 at Central Library, Aaronson Auditorium, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue. This two-hour symposium will delve into vampires in books, film and pop culture, ending with a freewheeling presentation by “Vampire A Go-Go” novelist Victor Gischler.
Dr. Joshua Grasso, assistant professor at East Central University, will present “How to Read ‘Dracula’: A Primer to Sink Your Teeth Into Bram Stoker’s Classic Novel,” and Laura Raphael, M.A., library associate, Central Library, will lead a discussion on “The Meaning of Vampires in Popular Culture.” Gischler’s presentation will follow.
Often compared to Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut and Thomas Pynchon, Gischler is a multitalented author in an array of genres, including crime fiction, screenplays and graphic novels. Gischler will discuss his latest novel, “Vampire A Go-Go,” a hilarious romp of spooky, Gothic entertainment – complete with werewolves, ghosts, witches, gun-toting Jesuit priests and, of course, vampires! A book signing will follow. Copies of his books will be available for purchasing.
“Novel Talk: Literature With Bite” is sponsored by the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries. The program is free and open to the public. Adults and mature teens are welcome to attend.
Preregistration is encouraged as seating is limited. To register for the program, call 918-549-7474 or e-mail lraphae@tulsalibrary.org, or sign up online at www.tulsalibrary.org under “Books & Reading.”
