Sharpen your colored pencils and set your imagination to the future. Tulsa City-County Library is sponsoring the “Anime Minicon Art Contest” to encourage Tulsa County teens to let their artistic abilities shine.

The deadline to enter the contest is Oct. 13. Entries must be on white, unlined paper and can utilize any medium (e.g. pencil, pen, pastel, watercolor, charcoal, marker). There are three age divisions: 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18. Within each age division, prizes are awarded in the following amounts: first place – drawing pen set, sketchbook and $25 gift card to Ziegler’s; second place – sketchbook and $25 gift card to Ziegler’s; and third place - $25 gift card to Ziegler’s.

Artists can submit one entry if they live, work or attend school in Tulsa County, or have a nonresident TCCL card. Enclose your completed and signed entry form and your artwork together in an envelope and hand deliver to your community library or Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue. An impartial panel of judges will determine the winners based on creativity and artistic ability.

Winners will be announced at TCCL’s 2011 Anime Minicon at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., on Oct. 29, 1-4 p.m. This year’s event features martial-arts demos, exhibitors including Asian products, anime clubs and a cosplay contest. Author and illustrator Gene Yang is the featured speaker. Yang is best-known for “American Born Chinese” and “Level Up.” The first 200 teens will receive a free copy of “American Born Chinese.”

For a complete list of contest rules, pick up an entry form at any TCCL location, visit http://teens.tulsalibrary.org, or call the AskUs Hotline, 918-549-7323.
