Before you make a major purchase, it’s often a good idea to do a little homework, and when it comes to consumer products, there aren’t many better sources of information than Consumer Reports. Fortunately, the library carries this helpful periodical in both print and electronic formats. You can find the print edition at most of our branches, including an extensive archive at the downtown Central library.

Our electronic version is available through the EBSCO databases, and can be found by doing a title search in our catalog for ‘Consumer Reports Online‘. Select the link that says Access Masterfile Premier. This will provide a year by year archive of back issues, as well as an option to search within the publication. By doing a search for air conditioners, you’ll find that they did a review of air conditioning units in July of 2010, comparing 35 different models of various sizes.
