Askew, Rilla -- Strange Business (1992). Twenty-five years in the life of a fictitious town. Won the 1992 Oklahoma Book Award. Also Mercy Street (1997).

Bell, Betty Louise -- Faces in the Moon (1994). Stories of three generations of Cherokee women told by the youngest, Lucie.

Bernhardt, William -- Primary Justice, Blind Justice, Deadly Justice, Perfect Justice, Cruel Justice, Dark Justice, Extreme Justice, Naked Justice (1992-1999). The "Justice" series features Ben Kincaid, a Tulsa attorney and crime fighter. Code of Buddyhood (1992) is based on the author's experiences at the University of Oklahoma.

Blair, Clifford -- Guns of the Sacred Heart (1991) and Storm Over the Lightning (1993). Colorful westerns set in Indian Territory.

Elmblad, Mary -- All Manner of Riches (1987). Cassie Taylor lives through proverty and the Oklahoma drought of August 1930 to become a successful Texas attorney.

Ferber, Edna -- Cimarron (1929). A classic story of pioneer life in Indian Territory.

Floyd, Patty Lou -- The Silver DeSoto (1987). A moving story of life on the Oklahoma prairie during the late 30s dust bowl.

Haring, Jo -- The Founding Father (1984). A generational saga of life in Tulsa beginning in 1819, leading the reader through some of the major events in American history.

Hogan, Linda -- Mean Spirit (1990). The discovery of on the Oklahoma ranch of the Graycloud family sets into motion rounds of crime and suffering.

Kingsolver, Barbara -- Pigs in Heaven (1993). This charming novel set in northeastern Oklahoma offers unforgettable characters and an unusual look at Oklahoma's Native American population.

Lackey, Mercedes -- Sacred Ground (1994). Lackey uses Native American culture, beliefs, and magic as the foundation for a contemporary novel of fantasy and suspense.

Lehrer, Jim -- One-Eyed Mack Series: Kick the Can (1988), Crown Oklahoma (1989), Sooner Spy (1990), Fine Lines (1994). Oklahoma's Lieutenant Governor Mack is hard on the trail of vice and corruption in his home state. Rollicking satire from the host of PBS's Lehrer News Hour.

Letts, Billie -- Where the Heart Is (1995). Winner of the 1995 Oklahoma Book Award and an Oprah Book Club selection, this novel presents the warm heart of small-town Oklahoma.

Miller, Teresa -- Remnants of Glory (1981). Kate Dexter's high spirits and strength carry her through difficult times as a mother and teacher during Oklahoma's pioneer days.Family Correspondence is Miller's most recently published novel.

Morrison, Toni -- Paradise (1988). In a small, all-black town in Oklahoma, a stranger's home for wayward girls becomes a target for ignorance and prejudice in the tumultuous 1970s.

O'Brien, Darcy -- The Silver Spooner (1981). Earl Kruger wanted to own all of Oklahoma and almost succeeds. After his death, his son struggles to follow in his footsteps.

Sandstrom, Eve -- Death Down Home (1990), Devil Down Home (1991), Down Home Heifer Heist (1993). A mystery series featuring an ex-Army criminal investigator who becomes a sheriff in southwestern Oklahoma ranch country.

Steinbeck, John -- Grapes of Wrath (1939). Epic story of dispossessed Oklahoma sharecroppers in search of the California promised land.
