The Road to Reading
Central Library's Route 66 Themed Children's Area

Staff will provide storytimes, tours and computer training for day cares, schools, and civic groups, including other requests listed below.

  1. Staff will produce subject bibliographies on request.
  2. Computer training classes:  Kids Catalog, Library League, & databases like genre lessons using the Novelist.
  3. Requests for subjects or titles will be held at Central or sent to a branch library.
  4. Visits to schools: Summer Reading Program, Books to Treasure, library card signups, book talks/storytelling, and parent/teacher talks.
  5. Participate in community events for children.
  6. Outreach storytimes for day cares or schools without transportation to the library.
  7. Storytimes:  My First Storytime, Preschool, and elementary at Central Library.
  8. Every Child Ready to Read training for day cares, civic groups, or parent/teacher groups.

Tours:

  1. Preschool – 2nd grade: Walk our road & listen to stories (30 minutes).
  2. 3rd grade – Walk our road & listen to stories or get catalog training (30 minutes).
  3. 4th-6th grade – Walk our road & get catalog/research training (30-60 minutes).

Theme tours for 2nd-6th grade:

  1. Route 66: the history of Cyrus Avery, fun with road signs, & roadside attractions (30 minutes). 
  2. Roadtrip Stories, Native American stories with puppets and stops at the turtle, red fox, armadillo, jack rabbit, and snake in our road (30 minutes).
