Thursday is November 1 the day Oklahoma traditionally sees its newly enacted or amended laws take effect. This year we have 156 new or changed laws taking effect on November 1. Access a search of new laws here: http://tinyurl.com/9bgfcxe.
The most talked about among this year's new laws include the 36 changes to state gun laws, mostly pertaining to the new Open Carry policy. Currently all but 6 states and the District of Columbia allow some form of open carry and beginning Thursday Oklahoma will join this group. Carrying a handgun, concealed or unconcealed, is limited to licensed carriers. It is important to note that you can’t carry everywhere. Business owners reserve the right to declare their establishments “Gun Free Zones;” and guns, whether concealed or unconcealed, are prohibited from
public parks, any government building or meeting, schools, sporting events or jail. For more information about the new Oklahoma Open Carry Law, check out this article from the Tulsa World and a Q&A from OpenCarry.org.
Other highlights among the new laws… consolidation of all elections to Tuesdays and greater coordination between businesses and agencies to ensure the cancellation of voter registration for deceased Oklahomans.
