GIS Guidelines and Usage Policy

The Geographic Information System Station is a value-added service of the Tulsa City-County Library. We realize that some individuals may have previous knowledge of ArcView software and may wish to work on the computer unaided by staff. However, it is required for everyone to sign up in advance to use this station.

We request that all individuals reserve time on the computer. Please indicate how the software will be used, how much time you estimate your project will take, and if you will need assistance.

One-on-one training and or GIS station use must be arranged a week in advance with the librarian who will provide the training so that schedules may be coordinated.  Projects requiring the aid of a trained staff member will be done on a first come first served basis.

If a map is needed in less than a week, Research Wizard is a fee-based service that is available to meet specialized needs. Any project requiring geocoding or that will take longer than two hours will need to be referred to Research Wizard.

A color printer is provided with this station. Copies will be $1.00 per page, and there will be a limit of one copy per map per person.

The station is equipped with a CD-RW drive. All customers wishing to save their projects to a CD-ROM will need to bring one with them. We do not have CD-ROMS available for purchase. Projects saved to the hard drive are not guaranteed against deletion by library staff or other customers.

Manipulation of files or willful destruction of data on the hard drive will result in permanent loss of GIS privileges.

In signing up, you agree to comply with the GIS Guidelines and Usage Policy outlined on this page and with the library's Internet usage policies.

To reserve time on the computer contact the Central Library Research Center at 596-7977.
