Salary Range:

Grade 5: $8.35/hour

Hours:

5 hours/week

Job Summary:

Sorts and places books and other library materials in proper shelf locations; maintains neat and orderly conditions in assigned area; helps serve customers at circulation/public service desk as required; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  1. Sorts returned materials and retrieves, organizes, and returns discharged and browse cart materials to proper library shelves in alphabetic or numeric order;
  2. Maintains shelves and circulation areas to ensure that the library is neat and materials are in the proper location;
  3. Works at public service desk registering customers, issuing library cards, charging and discharging library materials to/from customers using computerized circulation systems as required;
  4. Assists customers in person and by phone in locating materials or providing information about the library;
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Good communication and interpersonal skills ;
  2. Ability to read and perform alphabetic and numeric sorting;
  3. Basic computer skills, including ability to learn library’s automated system;
  4. May work irregular hours including evenings and weekend shifts up to eight hours.
Education & Experience:
  1. Some high school education or training;
  2. No previous experience required.
Physical & Environmental Conditions:

Work requires lifting and/or pushing light to moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds),  very long periods of walking and/or standing, and frequently requires stooping and bending.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
