Write Your Way to Cash with Adult Creative Writing Contest

   Wordsmiths take note, you can now enter your snappy sonnets and enlightening essays in the 36th annual Adult Creative Writing contest.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries, the contest gives unpublished writers an opportunity to win cash for using their imagination.

   The contest is open to any person 18 years or older who lives, works, attends school in Tulsa County or has a nonresident Tulsa City-County Library card.  The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 31, 2013.

   Submissions of unpublished original text are welcomed in these categories:

New Russian and English Storytimes at Martin Regional Library

   Storytimes build literacy skills and inspire imaginations in young readers.  A new bilingual storytime at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, seeks to enhance cultural awareness by reading the same books in two languages.

Rudisill Regional Library Features "A Kwanzaa Community Celebration"

   Since the creation of Kwanzaa in the 1960s, the weeklong event has established itself as an annual celebration of community enrichment.

   Families are invited to “A Kwanzaa Community Celebration” Dec. 26, 6-8 p.m. at the Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford.  This event is sponsored by the Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center and the Tulsa Library Trust.

Great Decisions Discussion Series Kickoff Features Robert H. Donaldson

   The Great Decisions discussion series explores how remote global challenges are increasingly impacting our communities.

   A kickoff is planned for Jan. 27, 2013 at 2:30 p.m., in Central Library’s Aaronson Auditorium, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.

   The featured speaker is Robert H. Donaldson, Trustees professor of political science and director of the Russian studies program at the University of Tulsa.  His topic for the Great Decision’s kickoff is “Assessing the Limits of U.S. Intervention: Should We Mind Our Own Business?”

Library to Induct Book Smart Co-Founder Jeff Martin Into Hall of Fame

   With his brainchild Book Smart Tulsa, Jeff Martin has raised the literary bar in Tulsa, bringing a new youthful energy to the literary scene and giving Tulsa a national reputation as a valuable wellspring of literary life.

   Since its inception in 2009, Book Smart Tulsa has hosted more than 100 acclaimed authors, helping to make Tulsa a vibrant location for writers and readers alike. Book Smart Tulsa has partnered with the Tulsa City-County Library on numerous occasions.
