Library to Forgive Fines in September

Have you avoided the library because of overdue materials you can’t afford to return – or are too embarrassed to bring back?  Tulsa City-County Library customers will be welcomed back to the stacks, thanks to the library’s “Bring Back the Books” initiative.

Throughout September, TCCL encourages customers to Bring Back the Books.  The initiative is designed to empower customers to return overdue books, music and movies in exchange for dismissing any accrued fines.  Items where fines will not be waived include: Interlibrary Loan late fees and postage, library card replacement, printing charges, and replacement costs for damaged or lost materials.

The Bring Back the Books campaign is intended to start customers with a clean slate in October, when changes begin for renewal, loan and fine structure.  New overdue fine rates will be 10 cents per day with a $2 maximum.  Loan periods for DVD and Blu-Ray will increase to 14 days.  DVD and Blu-Ray also will increase to 10 loan items.  Customers also can renew an individual item for up to one year, unless there is a hold on that item.  If so, then the normal load period will take effect.

This also is a good time to update your contact information as TCCL is “Going Green.”  In an effort to save nearly $35,000 a year on mailing notifications and save time as well, customers can choose to be notified by email or phone with information on requested or overdue materials.

A quick way for families to keep track of their library materials is “Library Elf.”  This is a convenient tool to keep up-to-date on material due dates and holds via text, email or RSS alerts.

For more information on Bring Back the Books and updating your customer information, call the AskUs Hotline, 918-549-7323, or visit the library’s website, www.tulsalibrary.org.

Hello Narina, It does apply, visit your neighborhood library this month to waive the fines on the returned books. Also, bring your photo ID to update your customer record.
Thank you!
