Relive Tulsa’s and Oklahoma’s colorful past by perusing this comprehensive, multi-format collection that resides in the Research Center on the 4th floor of the Central Library. The collection includes books and materials on both our local and state history, biographies of noted Oklahomans, books about Indian tribes in Oklahoma, travel destinations, and other topics as they relate to our local history, including art, archaeology, literature, music, education, business, cookbooks, and maps. |
Collection Features
- Books on nearly every aspect of Tulsa and Oklahoma including works by Oklahoma authors, biographies of notable Oklahomans, county histories and much more.
- State and local vertical file collections organized by subject. The collection includes Biography files, local company histories, neighborhood histories, local haunted houses, and famous visitors to Tulsa, Oklahoma license plates, Arkansas River development, Civil War battles, and even a file on Old Frisco No. 4500, the railroad engine currently being restored with Vision 2025 funds.
- Several videos from the Tulsa History Series produced by Jack Frank are available for viewing on a computer terminal. Available for in-library viewing are: Best of Tulsa Memories, Let's Go Downtown!, Stuff That's Gone, Tulsa Art Deco, and Tulsa's Uncommon Houses.
- Will Rogers Interactive Biography Database allows the researcher to follow the life and career of Oklahoma’s favorite son.
- Bound copies of The Chronicles of Oklahoma, produced by the Oklahoma Historical Society, dating back to the mid-1920s.
- The School Yearbooks collection of donated yearbooks represents a number of schools in Tulsa County and some state and private universities. The largest collection of yearbooks is located at the Central Library, but several of the branch libraries have small collections representing schools in their area. As yearbooks are donated to the library they are cataloged and added to the collection.
