Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 Historic District National Register Nomination Report

The City of Tulsa is working with the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to complete a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the 1921 Race Riot, including the historic Greenwood business district.

If accepted by the National Park Service, this district will be listed at the National level of significance for African American heritage and for the 1921 Race Riot. The district will be listed at the local level of significance for community planning and development and for Greenwood's African American heritage as Black Wall Street.

A draft of the nomination report and the historic district boundary map can be found on the Tulsa Preservation Commission website and on the local history subject guide.
