Job Summary: 

This position calls for a strong, teen-centric coordinator who can continue to develop and expand the library’s efforts to engage, educate and entertain the teens and tweens of Tulsa County. Strong organizational skills are required to manage systemwide teen services from the Youth Services Department; to administer grants and Tulsa Library Trust initiatives related to teen services; to serve as spokesperson in the community regarding teen issues, programs and events; and to provide leadership and development opportunities for TCCL’s teen associates and librarians

Essential Functions: 


  1. Coordinate systemwide teen programming including the Teen Summer Reading Program, Teen Team program, the Young People’s Writing Contest, Teen Tech Week, Teen Read Month;
  2. Plan, implement, and administer various special programs for teens working with Public Relations on community-wide promotion, train staff as needed, and maintain appropriate records;
  3. Chair the Teen Action Committee;
  4. Coordinate a committee of teen staff to maintain and continue to develop the library’s Teen website and measures its impact and effectiveness;
  5. Maintain the Teen Intranet site for staff;
  6. Research and coordinate new programs, approaches, methods and resources for serving teens;
  7. Work with Human Resources Training Coordinator to provide appropriate staff training and development;
  8. Work with branch and department managers to help evaluate the effectiveness of teen services at all libraries;
  9. Prepare grant proposals and administer as needed;
  10. Work with system teen staff to liaise with area public and private schools to promote school and library cooperation;
  11. May be asked to serve on local, state and national committees, task forces, and professional organizations on behalf of TCCL;
  12. Perform other duties as instructed and assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to develop and implement successful teen and youth programs and to evaluate their effectiveness;
  • Experience working with teens;
  • Knowledge of young adult literature;
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions;
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to attend offsite meetings and programs;
  • Skilled in the use of relevant online tools, computer hardware, software, and various other office machines and equipment.
Education & Experience: 
  1. Master’s Degree in Library Science
  2. Three to five years library experience with at least three years serving teens preferred.
Physical & Environmental Conditions: 

The job occasionally requires stooping or bending.  Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four for five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions.  The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
