Farmers Markets

Most markets focus on seasonal produce but can include meat, dairy, and prepared foods, as well as entertainment and crafts.  All accept SNAP credit (food stamps) with double credit up to $20, through a grant from the George Kaiser Family Foundation, at the Cherry Street Market.  See a market manager to purchase tokens with a SNAP card.

Both the Downtown and the Brookside/Cherry Street (Saturdays at Brookside) markets will remain open through the winter, weather permitting, selling prepared foods and winter vegetables.  See also the Co-ops box for more options.

Community Supported Agriculture and Co-ops 

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and co-ops are collective food purchasing arrangements that support local farms and can lower the cost of organic and seasonal foods.  In a CSA, participants buy a share of a farm's harvest, receiving weekly produce share bags.  Co-ops include dairy, meat, and grains sourced from several different farmers.

While only a few restaurants in the Tulsa area are strictly vegetarian, several provide a good selection of meatless meals as well as using local and organic ingredients, including:

Food Help: Government Assistance

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Federal assistance for those whose income meets eligibility requirements.  SNAP is administered through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. ACCESS CARDS are accepted at most stores and Farmers' Markets for food and food plants.  918-581-2401. 

School children may qualify for reduced price lunches and breakfasts.Tulsa Public Schools Summer Cafe provides lunch and breakfast to any child under 18 with no paperwork required at more than 70 locations during Summer Break.  918-833-8673

Set the Table, Tulsa

Set the Table Tulsa is an initiative by Global Gardens,with support from Whole Foods and Tulsa Kids, to challenge the Tulsa community to prioritize focused family dinners.   It challenges Tulsans to share a family meal at home four times a week through the month of November.
