Dinosaur Books & Why They Are Awesome!

By Angela Martinez, Children's Associate, Broken Arrow Library

Children—and adults—are fascinated by dinosaurs. Is it because they were mind-blowingly large? Teeny tiny? Or maybe it’s that colossal roar that echoes through our imaginations. Whatever the reason, there’s just something about these prehistoric creatures that captures our curiosity. And the library has just the right book to engage your reader on the subject of dinosaurs!

From graphic novels full of action-packed adventures to picture books with charming dino characters, there’s a dinosaur story for every kind of reader. Even the littlest paleontologists can join in with colorful board books that teach shapes, sounds, and dino names. Beginning readers can stomp through early chapter books where friendly (or ferocious!) dinosaurs take center stage. And for kids who love facts, our shelves are packed with nonfiction full of fossil finds, roaring replicas, and real scientific discoveries that make learning fun.

What makes dinosaur books so special is that they naturally spark curiosity. Kids start asking big questions: What did they eat? How did they move? Why did they disappear? Those “why” and “how” questions are early signs of scientific thinking—and books are the perfect way to explore them together.

Whether your child loves to imagine a world filled with towering T. rexes or prefers gentle stories about dino friendship, the library has a book that will make them roar with excitement.
