Spring often gets all the credit for being a season of renewal, but I think renewal actually starts in the fall! Before we can make room for something new, sometimes we need to clear our plates. Nature seems to understand this. Leaves change colors and fall from the trees, the days get shorter, and everything begins preparing for the season ahead. Kids may need that reminder, too! By fall, they're in the thick of the school semester. The excitement of a brand-new school year has settled into homework, activities, and busy routines. At the same time, there's so much to look forward to—cooler weather, fall traditions, holidays and time spent with family. Fall gives us a chance to slow down, notice the changes happening around us, and enjoy where we are before rushing into what's next. Renewal starts now!
Books are a wonderful way to explore all the different things this season can mean. From changing leaves and new beginnings to gratitude, cultural celebrations and a little Halloween silliness, there are so many fall stories to share together. Check out a few of these:
Mixed-Up Mooncakes by Christina Matula
Fall Is for Beginnings by Rajani LaRocca
Gather Grateful by Megan Litwin
I Am a Leaf by Angelo Mozzillo
And let's add a little -o-Ween to all that fall! Join us at the Herman & Kate Kaiser Library on Saturday, October 31, from 1-2 p.m. for a special Happy Halloween! Saturday Build A Reader Family Storytime. Come in costume and stay for a costume parade and creepy craft!
