Mission
Our Mission: Keeping Young Men From Prison By Helping Them Build Better Lives.
Our Vision: Our goal is to stop the school to prison pipeline in Oklahoma for young men by providing necessary survival skills and services, facilitating the need for career opportunities and instilling positive behavior change for lifetime success.
Programs and Services
1st Step is a program that teaches young men how to prevent relapse, recognize both internal and environmental triggers, build coping skills, make adjustments to their lifestyle, and understand addiction as the result of a disease that affects the brain.
The young men are expected to participate in individual counseling sessions, drug abuse treatment groups, and two Peer Recovery Support groups on a weekly basis. At the start, participants live together in one of the residential, supervised sober living residences operated by 1st Step.
In addition, young men can also participate in programs that teach them about nutrition, parenting, financial literacy, work readiness, anger management, and GED classes. They are also able to get couples counseling if needed before graduating 1st Step. Throughout the program, providers and consultants provide assessment, counseling, training, and job placement, helping each young man create his own career path in order to achieve financial independence, self-confidence, and community acceptance.
No violent or sexual offenders.
