TULSA, Okla. --- Celebrate Family History Month with engaging workshops this July at Hardesty Regional Library. 

The Genealogy Resource Center will offer six free programs in July, covering topics such as beginning your genealogy journey, creating a family memory box and tracing ancestors in the Oklahoma State prison records. The Genealogy Resource Center is located in Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. 

Family History Month programs include: 

• “AI and Genealogy” on Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Stephen J. Little, AI program director for the National Genealogical Society, for a workshop that explores how AI and genealogy intersect to enhance results. For teens and adults. Registration is required. 

• “Nations Remembered” on Thursday, July 17 from 7-8 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Rebecca McWilliams, Oklahoma history librarian, and Aaron Pope, Genealogy Resource Coordinator, for a lecture and discussion over the rich heritage and history of Oklahoma’s Five Tribes. For teens and adults. Registration is required. 

• “Beginning Genealogy” on Saturday, July 19 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library and Thursday, July 24 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library, 6038 E. 23rd St. Join the Genealogy Resource Center for a presentation on methods for genealogy research methods and how to start your family history search. For teens and adults. Registration is required for the event at Hardesty Regional Library. 

• “Family Memory Box” on Wednesday, July 23 from 2-3 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join the Genealogy Resource Center to create and decorate small boxes for storing family mementos, photos and memories. Boxes and craft supplies are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring family photos for decoration. For elementary schoolers to teens. 

• “Behind the Bars” on Saturday, July 26 from 10 a.m.–noon at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Aaron Pope, Genealogy Center coordinator, for a fascinating dive into the Oklahoma Historical Society’s database of Oklahoma Penitentiary Photograph and Fingerprint Card records. For teens and adults. Registration is required.

The Genealogy Resource Center, which has one of the largest genealogical collections in Oklahoma and is designated as an official FamilySearch Center affiliate, is open yearround to assist with genealogical research.
