New 33,000-square-foot library returns Rudisill to Historic Greenwood with expanded resources, creative spaces and community amenities
TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) will celebrate the grand opening of the new Rudisill Regional Library on Saturday, Oct. 3, marking the library's return to Historic Greenwood.
The celebration will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by grand-opening activities throughout the day. The public is invited to tour the new 33,000-square-foot library and experience its expanded collections, resources and spaces designed to serve the community for generations to come.
“This is an extraordinary moment for Tulsa City-County Library and for the community Rudisill has proudly served for 50 years,” said TCCL CEO Kimberly Johnson. “This new library honors Rudisill’s history while creating new opportunities for learning, connection, creativity and discovery. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality, and we cannot wait to welcome the community home.”
Located in Tulsa’s Historic Greenwood District, the new Rudisill Regional Library was made possible through the MY Library, OUR Future capital campaign, a $58 million investment in four library projects throughout Tulsa County made possible through our donors.
The new library features:
· BOK Harmony Hall, a premier event space for community gatherings, meetings and special events.
· The African American Resource Center has doubled in size and is the only resource center of its kind in Oklahoma featuring materials documenting and celebrating the history and culture of African Americans.
· The Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation Genealogy Center, bringing genealogy resources back to North Tulsa and providing opportunities for customers to explore their family histories.
· A Maker Space, featuring an audio lab, soundproof recording studio, musical instruments and other tools for hands-on creativity.
· A destination children’s area featuring the Jeanne B. Goodwin Storytime Room and double the space.
· Expanded meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, study areas, computers, outdoor patios and flexible spaces for customers of all ages, and a gift shop.
Throughout the new building, visitors also will find artwork by Tulsa artist Dell Chambers that reflects the history, people and spirit of Greenwood, as well as historic artifacts uncovered during construction.
Rudisill Regional Library has served generations of Tulsans since opening in 1976. The new library builds on that legacy while returning Rudisill to Historic Greenwood and creating a modern destination for education, culture, creativity and community.
