TULSA CITY-COUNTY LIBRARY LAUNCHES REDESIGNED WEBSITE

www.tulsalibrary.org

Tulsa City-County Library is launching its redesigned website, www.tulsalibrary.org, on July 3.  Created by library staff, the new site features enhancements designed to make finding books and information easier for library customers.

Customers are welcomed to the home page with a clean design featuring easy-to-find links to useful library features.  Drop-down menus are designed to quickly guide customers to the information they are seeking, whether it is searching the catalog, finding library hours, instructional classes or the latest in local author events.

An exciting change at the forefront of the redesigned website is the addition of BiblioCommons, the primary Web interface to TCCL’s catalog.  It enables easy searching, organizing and sharing of your favorite library materials.  This shared Web service serves more than a million customers from more than 40 libraries across North America, making TCCL’s new website an expanded community of readers.  Keeping pace with social media, customers are able to add and share book ratings, comments and tags to dozens of social media outlets.  Adhering to the current federal law, social features are not available to customers under age 13.

In registering for the new catalog you can personalize your experience, including:

  • Creating a new password-protected, easy-to-remember username for logging in and identifying your contributions.
  • Selecting your preferred branch libraries under settings, to make it easier to see what is available at your branch and set your hold pickup location.
  • A personal landing page provides an overview of your borrowing (checked out, overdue and available holds) and up-to-date information about what others have shared.  You can place items virtually on your For Later Shelf.
  • Your New Shelves (completed, in progress and for later) allow you to keep track of everything you have read, watched or listened to.  Add comments and ratings to record or share what your thoughts are on the title.  You even can promote your shelf on Facebook or Twitter.

With an active library card, customers will have free access to the Deep Web, content that cannot easily be accessed through search engines and often requires a subscription.  Available are research tools for students, businesses and those learners seeking to expand their knowledge base.  These subscription databases are ideal for research, homework help, job searching, family history and even learning new languages.  You can research by subject through an alphabetical listing of the Deep Web resources.

“I think our customers will love the features of our new catalog!  They can keep lists of the books they have read or movies they have seen as well as lists of titles they want to read and see.  They can rate books, music and movies and can also share that information with others if they wish.  I love the social networking capabilities,” said Cindy Hulsey, Readers’ Library manager.  “For example, my co-workers and I like to share what we're reading, and I can follow those people online to get good book suggestions. But, of course, we value our customers' privacy, so you can keep your reading history private or share it with others.  It's up to you.  Readers and librarians have created many wonderful lists to help people find good books to read, and more are added to the catalog every day.  Our new catalog is truly a book lover's dream!”

Utilizing the extensive knowledge of TCCL librarians, users can find daily blogs featuring government documents, nonprofit resource center and small-business center, as well as other helpful and time-saving topics.

A link to the legacy site will be available for a brief period of time as a quick finding aid while customers learn to use the new website.

Log in and explore the new many new features of the website.  If you have any questions call the AskUs Hotline, 918-549-7323.
