Tulsa City-County Library’s fall Music Sandwiched In series dovetails with the welcoming autumn breeze as local musicians share their versions of the theme, “Regards to Broadway.”
Each Wednesday in September, from 12:10-12:50 p.m., Central Library’s Aaronson Auditorium, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, showcases a variety of vocalists and instrumentalists performing selections from the most popular Broadway shows. Learn a little history about each composter and enjoy a theatrical performance from some of Tulsa’s talented thespians and musicians. This free series is sponsored by Central Library’s Media Center and the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries. You may bring your lunch or purchase a sandwich and coffee at the door.
The series begins Sept. 5 with “Rodgers and Hammerstein.” Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein may be the most recognizable lyricist and composer duo on Broadway, creating such smash hits as “Oklahoma!” “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music.”
Sept. 12 features the works of “Lerner and Loewe.” Since their first collaboration in 1942, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe have written and composed some of the most successful musicals of all time including “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “Brigadoon” and “Paint Your Wagon.”
“Andrew Lloyd Webber” is the feature for Sept. 19. Characterized by his more operatic composing style, Andrew Lloyd Webber has captivated audiences for decades with his musical works of art such as “Cats,” “Evita,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and its sequel “Love Never Dies.”
The series concludes with “Alan Menken” on Sept. 26. Best known for his work on Disney films such as “Aladdin” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” Alan Menken has masterfully adapted several of Disney’s classics to the stage, most notably “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Newsies,” which debuted on Broadway earlier this year.
