"The Bully Plays" Presented by Sun Caste Reader's Theater Group

Beware bullies! Aggressive behavior, in any form, will not be tolerated. All ages are invited to experience “The Bully Plays” presented by the Sun Caste Reader’s Theater Group, May 1, 7-9 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St. “The Bully Plays” is an exploration of the devastating impact of bullying. Presented with permission from Dramatic Publishing Services, the six vignettes are designed to underscore the tragic consequences of bullying and are performed via reader’s theater by young people ages 8-18. At times tragic, the compelling stories bring an important message: Stand up and speak up! The Sun Caste Reader’s Theater group was created by Alicia Latimer, Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center coordinator. The purpose of the group is to support literacy and encourage participants to communicate ideas to others more clearly, as well as gain experience in public speaking and working as a team. Before and after the performance, members of Tulsa’s Anti-Bullying Collaboration will provide booths with information on teen counseling services. Booths from local social-service agencies will be available as well. Plus, a special presentation for adults on teen suicide intervention, prevention and indications will be offered from 5:30-6:30 p.m. “The Bully Plays” is sponsored by Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center, Tulsa’s Anti-Bullying Collaboration, Williams Foundation and Rejoice Dance Studio.
