To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg, Tulsa City-County Library is hosting “The Civil War Sesquicentennial” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.
Learn about the Civil War at this fascinating living history event featuring engaging presentations and performances for the entire family. Discover the many resources available at the library for Civil War researchers, plus visit the Children’s Department for ongoing activities and games.
Scheduled presentations include: Civil War stories at 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., music of the Civil War at 11:30 a.m. and reading of the Gettysburg Address at noon.
This free event is sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust and complements the 2013 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature honoring Jim Murphy, author of “The Long Road to Gettysburg” and more than 30 other nonfiction books for children and young adults. Murphy will be in Tulsa Aug. 23 and 24 to receive the Zarrow award.
