Imani Winds to Share Music at Rudisill Reigonal Library

Enjoy an evening with the Grammy-nominated quintet Imani Winds, May 7, 7-8:30 p.m., at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford.  Their performance is for all ages, and free and open to the public.

Since 1997, the quintet has carved out a distinctive presence in the classical music world with dynamic playing and inspirational outreach programs.  They have five releases on E1 Music, including their 2006 Grammy Award nominated recording entitled “The Classical Underground.”  They also have recorded for Naxos, Blue Note and Warner Classics.

In 2010, the ensemble launched its annual Chamber Music Festival, set on The Julliard School campus.  Young instrumentalists from across the United States gather for an intense 10-day program devoted to excellence in wind chamber music.  The curriculum is designed to improve artistry and knowledge of repertoire, foster creativity and deepen a musician’s ability to build their own careers.

Imani Winds is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.  Through commissions and performances the quintet regularly collaborates with artists ranging from Yo-Yo Ma to Wayne Shorter.  In 2006, they celebrated the centennial of Josephine Baker’s birth by recording “Josephine Baker: A Life of Le Jazz Hot!”

Imani Winds’ visit is sponsored by Chamber Music Tulsa and Friends of the Rudisill Regional Library.
