Tragedies that evoke laughter have long been the mainstay of great literature.
Join a distinguished panel of experts March 12, 7-8:30 p.m. in Hardesty Regional Library’s Frossard Auditorium, 8316 E. 93rd St., for “Novel Talk Presents Laughing Through Tears: Humor & Heartbreak in Literature.” The discussion focuses on the contemporary classic “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett and how she manages to combine humor and heartbreak in thematically illuminating ways.
Speakers include:

- Dr. Jocelyn Payne, executive director, John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Center
- Teresa Miller, executive director, Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers at OSU-Tulsa
This edition of Novel Talk is a precursor to the Tulsa Reads program “An Evening with Kathryn Stockett,” March 27, 7 p.m. at the Tulsa PAC/Chapman Music Hall. Stockett will share her story, answer questions and sign copies of her books.
