As an official distribution site for “World Book Night,” April 23, 2014, Tulsa City-County Library customers can apply to be “book givers” and receive 20 paperback books to give away for free. World Book Night is a national campaign to encourage reading and giving. On this day, 25,000 volunteers throughout the U.S. will each receive 20 books to give to light or non-readers and to those without the means or access to books. Selected book givers will receive their books to give at a library reception the week before World Book Night on April 23. Book lovers can apply online to become a volunteer book giver through Jan. 5, 2014. Book descriptions for the 35 chosen titles in English and Spanish, guidelines and an online application are available at www.us.worldbooknight.org. Applicants will be notified in February if they were selected as a book giver and which book they will receive to distribute in the community. “I’m excited to be part of a nationwide effort to get books into the hands of those who tend not to read much,” said Cindy Hulsey, Central Readers’ Library and Media Center manager. “The library is proud to be a pick-up location for book givers for the first time this year. The mission of World Book Night is a perfect fit with the mission of the library.
