The beauty and culture of Russia was displayed worldwide during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Take a deeper look into Russia’s history, culture and customs during the “2014 Russian Festival: From Russia With Love,” April 5, 2-4 p.m., at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road. The festival is free and open to the public.
Family activities include Olympic crafts, a marionette show, scavenger hunt, cultural samples, Russian artifacts and a book giveaway for each child. Book displays will highlight Tulsa City-County Library’s collection of resources on Russia, Ukraine and the Olympics.
“The second annual Russian Festival is an opportunity to introduce the Russian speaking community, and all library customers, to Tulsa City-County Library’s collections and its diverse services,” said Tatiana Godinez, Russian Festival coordinator. “We want to celebrate children and connect them to the world of books and different cultures.”
A specific service of interest to families is Mango Languages. This free service allows library card holders the chance to learn a new language, like Russian. Laptops will be available for attendees to explore Mango Languages and see how parents and children can learn a new language together.
During April, Tulsa City-County Library will celebrate El Dia de los Ninos/El Dia de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) with a month-long series of family programs encouraging cultural and literacy awareness. The goal of the series is to emphasize the importance of literacy for all children and expose families to diverse books, languages and cultures.
The “2014 Russian Festival: From Russia With Love” is sponsored by Tulsa Library Trust, the Hispanic Resource Center and Tulsa Global Alliance.
