To help connect library customers to the magazines, newspapers and information they enjoy, Tulsa City-County Library presents access to free digital magazines and newspapers.
With Zinio, customers can choose from more than 125 magazines, including popular, children’s and Spanish selections, like National Geographic, Rolling Stone and O, The Oprah Magazine. Finding your favorite magazine is as easy as browsing by category or title. Library customers can read them anytime, anywhere – either on PC or Mac or mobile devices. Apps are available for iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire and Blackberry Playbook. Downloaded magazines have no due dates and are yours to keep.
Another exciting e-service is Newspapers Direct, offering instant access to more than 2,200 newspapers from 97 countries in 54 languages, with more than 1,200 in English. Customers can download full-content newspapers like Tulsa World, Boston Herald and Washington Post for free by logging on to the Wi-Fi at any library location, or stream newspapers from a home computer or mobile device. There is also the option to listen to each chosen story.
“Providing digital magazines and newspapers is the next step in meeting the needs of library customers,” said Sue Anderson, TCCL’s adult nonfiction selector. “Not only do the new services provide greater access to information and knowledge, they do so in an environmentally friendly manner.”
A library card is the key to accessing these new library resources. Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Tulsa County is eligible to apply for a free library card.
Both services are funded by the Tulsa Library Trust. After a one-year pilot project, TCCL will assess offering the services long-term based on popularity. So, if you like this service, tell all your family and friends.
