Two Tulsa Roughnecks Take Time From the Pitch for Storytime

Tulsa Roughnecks Oscar Jimenez and Andy Lorei take a break from the pitch to share their love of books during a storytime at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, April 30 at 4 p.m.

Jimenez and Lorei will share their favorite children’s books, and talk about the importance of maintaining a strong mental and physical balance.

Their visit is part of the El dia de los niños/El dia de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day).  Celebrated on April 30, the day emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.  The day also is designed to recognize and respect culture, language and heritage as powerful took for strengthening families and communities.

“It’s important for children to see professional athletes and celebrities taking time to enjoy reading,” said Marie Welden, Martin Regional Library’s children’s area supervisor.  “It’s wonderful the Tulsa Roughnecks are supporting literacy and libraries.  I think when the players come to read in libraries they enjoy it as much as the children do.”
