Commemorate local history and work with peers to win prizes at the Tulsa City-County Library’s 2021 African American Heritage Bowl: 1921 Race Massacre Centennial Edition. TCCL’s African-American Resource Center will host the bowl, which is part of series of events and programs leading up to the centennial of the 1921 Race Massacre in Tulsa in May.

The African American Heritage Bowl will be hosted virtually on Zoom and Kahoot! by the Rudisill Regional Library, Thursday, Feb. 25, 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but participants must register their teams by Feb. 22.

The purpose of focusing TCCL’s annual Heritage Bowl on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre is to increase overall knowledge and understanding of this devastating historical event. The bowl is open to all junior high and high school students as well as business organizations, churches, book clubs, families and other community groups.

The trivia competition will feature a Junior High Bowl, High School Bowl and, if applicable, a Community Bowl. Trophies will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners. Each member of the winning teams in the school categories will receive an Amazon Fire tablet. Teams can have up to four members. Each junior high and high school may register only one team per school. Registered teams can acquire a quiz book, written by the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Commission members, to use as a study guide. Email Adrienne.Teague@tulsalibrary.org for team quiz books and school entry forms with rules and regulations. A maximum of six copies of the quiz book will be available for pickup at any of TCCL’s regional or Central libraries for registered school and community teams.

The African American Heritage Bowl is sponsored by the African-American Resource Center, the Tulsa Library Trust, and Jim and Sally Frasier.
