   Discover and share your family’s heritage with a series of free programs from Tulsa City-County Library’s (TCCL) Genealogy Center. During Family History Month this July, new and seasoned genealogy researchers are invited to explore their genealogical roots through a variety of programs all month at TCCL locations across Tulsa County.

      The Family History Month series kicks off Wednesday, July 6 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Nathan Hale Library, 6038 E. 23rd St., with “Researching at the Library.” Join Lisa Hansen, Genealogy Center associate, for an overview of the resources available for family history researchers such as the record collections found at Ancestry Library Edition, Family Search and other resources.

   Other Family History Month programs include:

  •  “Beginning Genealogy” on Saturday, July 9 from 1-2 p.m. at Zarrow Regional Library, 2224 W. 51st St. Aaron Pope, Genealogy Center coordinator, will discuss beginning your family history search.
  • “The History, Unusual Facts and Uncommon Records of the U.S. Federal Census” on Saturday, July 9 from 2-3 p.m. at Zarrow Regional Library. Join Phil Goldfarb, Tulsa Jewish Genealogical Society president, as he presents the history of the U.S. Census, unusual records and questions asked in federal censuses.
  • “Genealogy Workshop With Lisa Louise Cooke” on Saturday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, Frossard Auditorium, 8316 E. 93rd St. Join genealogist, author, lecturer and podcast host Lisa Louise Cooke of the Family Tree Magazine Genealogy Podcast, Genealogy Gems Podcast and YouTube show “Elevenses With Lisa.” Seating is limited to 175 spots. This program is sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust.
  • “Genealogy Resources at Central Library” on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Ave. Drop in and explore the genealogy resources available through Tulsa City-County Library's Oklahoma Room and Research Services at Central Library on the third floor. Jana Gowan, reference librarian, and Allison Embry-Saenz, Research Services manager, will lead tours throughout the day.
  • “DNA/Genealogy Workshop With Diahan Southard” on Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, Frossard Auditorium. Join us for this all-day workshop with Diahan Southard, a genetic genealogy expert, educator, and founder and CEO of Your DNA Guide. Seating is limited to 175 spots. Sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust.

   In addition to scheduled programs, the virtual program “Researching African American Ancestors” is available for viewing anytime. Watch it to learn about free online resources to research your African American roots with Tessa Brawley-Barker, Genealogy Center associate.   Located on the second floor of the Hardesty Regional Library, the Genealogy Center has one of the largest genealogical collections in Oklahoma. Plus, it is designated as an official FamilySearch Center, enabling it to borrow resources from the largest genealogy collection in the world – the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
