   TULSA, Okla. --- Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) and the Hispanic Resource Center promote and honor Hispanic culture and community throughout the year. Beginning Sept. 1, TCCL branches will offer special programs ranging from outdoor festivals and children’s crafts to book clubs and technology workshops to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins Sept. 15 and ends Oct. 15. Programming kicks off with a computer class for adults in the Hispanic Resource Center at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, and will be ongoing through Friday, Oct. 31, concluding with an author visit from Yuyi Morales for the 2026 Hummingbird Award in Literary Arts.

   Free Hispanic Heritage Month programs include:

  • Mexican Folklórico Dancing by Casa de la Cultura on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 5-6 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. Sponsored by the Friends of the Helmerich Library. For all ages.
  • Fandom Club on Thursdays, Sept. 17 and Oct. 1 from 4-6 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Whether you're into anime, manga, video games, comics or movies, come hang, chat and unwind. For teens and tweens.
  • Craft Castle: Hispanic Heritage Month on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4-5 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Make small clay versions of pan dulce. For ages 4-12. 
  • Noche Festival on Friday, Sept. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Kendall-Whittier Library, 21 S. Lewis Ave. Join us for an evening of refreshments, piñatas, singing and dancing to mariachi music. Please bring a lawn chair and/or a blanket. 
  • Recipes Across Generations on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Celebrate community by preserving recipes and sharing stories across generations. Our teen volunteers will help older adults create digital keepsakes while building cultural connections. For adults.
  • ¡Lotería! on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 4-5 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Join us for a fun game of ¡Lotería! to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. For elementary schoolers.
  • Tote Bag Marbling on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 6-7 p.m. at Herman and Kate Kaiser Library, 5202 S. Hudson Ave. Create a tote bag using shaving cream and paint in a unique marbling technique. Registration required. For adults.
  • Celebrando Cultura: Mexican-Inspired Ornament Take & Make, available Oct. 6-31 at Owasso Library, 314 E. Fifth Ave., Suite 202, during library hours. Teens and tweens can take home a kit to create ornaments inspired by Mexican folk art while exploring Mexican artists, traditions and culture. 
  • ¡Viva La Lectura! A Yuyi Morales Book Club for Kids on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 4-5 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Read a Yuyi Morales book of your choice, then join us for a fun celebration of her books with arts and crafts inspired by her stories and illustrations! For elementary schoolers.
  • Craft Castle: Día de los Muertos on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 4-5 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Join us to make calavera crafts in preparation for Día de los Muertos! For children
  • Hummingbird Award in Literary Arts: Honoring Yuyi Morales on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Martin Regional Library. Renowned children's author/illustrator Yuyi Morales will receive the Hummingbird Award in Literary Arts and speak about her life and works, and sign books. For all ages.

In addition, adults are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at these book clubs:

  • Beyond the Book on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at South Broken Arrow Library, 3600 S. Chestnut. Join us to discuss “Anita de Monte Laughs Last” by Xochitl Gonzalez. Reserved copies are available at the library. 
  • Jenks Book Club on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 6-7 p.m. at Jenks Library, 523 W. B St. Join fellow book lovers to discuss "The Volcano Daughters" by Gina María Balibrera. 
  • Sista' Chat Book Club on Saturday, Sept. 19 from noon-2 p.m. at Suburban Acres Library, 4606 N. Garrison. Join us for an afternoon of open dialogue of any titles that recognize, celebrate and acknowledge Hispanic culture. 
  • LitWits’ Book Club on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Read "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and then join us to talk about characters, themes or ideas. For adults.

   Hispanic Heritage Month programming is coordinated by TCCL’s Hispanic Resource Center, which was founded in 1999 to meet the educational and cultural needs of Tulsa’s Hispanic community.
