Join 2017 National Book Award Winner Robin Benway and 2018 Finalist Brandon Hobson for a lively presentation at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue, Feb. 12, 7-8:30 p.m.

   The program, presented as part of the National Book Foundation’s “NBF Presents” series, will address the nature of given and chosen families and the roles that those relationships play in fiction and life. Benway and Hobson will share their inspiration for writing, answer questions from the audience, and sign copies of their books. This program is free and open to the public.

   Robin Benway won the 2017 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for her novel Far from the Tree. She is the acclaimed author of Emmy & Oliver, the Also Known As series, The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May, & June, and Audrey, Wait! Benway’s books have been published in sixteen languages, won international awards, and been bestsellers in several countries.

   Brandon Hobson lives in Oklahoma and is a member of the Cherokee Nation. Where the Dead Sit Talking was a Finalist for the 2018 National Book Award in Fiction. He also was a recipient of the 2016 Pushcart Prize and his writing has appeared in publications around the world. His is the author of Desolation of Avenues Untold, Deep Ellum and The Levitationist.

   The National Book Awards were established in 1950 to celebrate the best writing in America. Since 1989, they have been overseen by the National Book Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to celebrate the best literature in America, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in American culture.
