OBOT 2025

May 8, 2025

Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) invites Tulsa County residents to join the conversation and participate in “One Book, One Tulsa,” a communitywide reading initiative focusing on Mateo Askaripour’s novel “This Great Hemisphere” and culminating with a free presentation by the author on Friday, July 18 from 6-7 p.m. at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue. Books will be available for purchasing at the event, courtesy of Fulton Street Books.

The annual “One Book, One Tulsa” event fosters literacy within Tulsa County through this communitywide book reading and encourages conversation about a meaningful work. Askaripour is a recipient of the National Book Foundation’s “5 Under 30” prize, and his novel “This Great Hemisphere” is a powerful, captivating work about how far we’ll go to protect the ones we love.

Readers are invited to explore Askaripour’s work and then deepen their understanding of the book through “Appetizers: Community Conversations,” a series of enlightening programs leading up to Askaripour’s visit in July. “Appetizers” events will be held in June and July, detailed below, and shareable food will be provided by the host location unless otherwise noted.
