2004 Circle of Honor Award

Honoring Charles Chibitty

Charles Chibitty was born in 1921 near Medicine Park, OK. He attended Haskell Indian School in Lawrence , KS and then joined the U.S. Army in 1941. Assigned to the 4th Infantry Division, Signal Corp, also known as the “Code Talkers”, Mr. Chibitty earned the World War II Victory Medal, the European Theater of Operations (5th Bronze Star) Victory Medal, the Europe/ African/ Middle East Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. The French government honored Mr. Chibitty in 1989 by naming him a Knight of the National Order of Merit. In 1999, he was presented with the Knowlton Award to recognize significant contributions to military intelligence efforts.  A Tulsa resident since 1945, Mr. Chibitty is also known for his championship dancing in several categories including fancy, straight, and traditional.
