The Day You Begin, written by Jacqueline Woodson and illustrated by Rafael Lopez
Not only does this beautiful book have delicate, richly layered illustrations by Rafael Lopez (the 2016 featured illustrator for the library’s popular Books To Treasure program), the theme that every person has value just the way they are – and are stronger when they help each other – is one that the late great Fred Rogers would approve.
