As a child, Amairani Perez would visit Martin Regional Library every Saturday with her family to explore the library’s world of resources.

She remembers her father reading his favorite magazines in the Hispanic Resource Center as she was “diving into the expansive worlds that could be afforded to readers through literature.”

Now, as an adult, Perez begins a fresh chapter in her story as TCCL’s new Hispanic Resource Center coordinator. She will plan programming, select resources and partner with community organizations to promote a diverse community.

“In regards to the local and national discussion of what it means to be Latinx in this country, there is plenty of room for the Hispanic Resource Center to become a place where families and individuals, regardless of their place of origin, can come to expand their knowledge and understanding of an ever-changing world, said Perez. “I am committed to enlisting the voice of the community in order to recognize the need for materials, programming, and services that the center can provide as resources for the customer. Ultimately, I am dedicated to introducing ideas that will foster the preservation of the diverse Hispanic culture and encourage individuals to reach their potential when it comes to literacy, education, and personal advancement.”

The Hispanic Resource Center, located at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, provides cultural, informational and educational resources, as well as activities and services for both Spanish-and-English-speaking families. The center was established to meet the educational and cultural needs of Tulsa County’s growing Hispanic community.

Families are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with activities for the whole family during “Kermesse Hispana” on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Martin Regional Library. Enjoy crafts, music, food, wares from local artisans and bilingual storytimes.
