The Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) is often asked to include independently written and/or published materials in our libraries.  As a public library, we select materials whose content is aimed at the general reader/listener/viewer rather than for the specialist or practitioner.  Generally, we do not collect textbooks.

A positive review in one or more of the library review journals, such as Library Journal, School Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly and the Tulsa World newspaper, will give your book an improved chance for purchase by TCCL.  It is also to your benefit if your item is carried by a local book or music store, which would generate a demand for its purchase by our library.

Please keep in mind that books in a public library get constant use.  Because of this, we look for materials that are sturdily bound, preferably sewn or glued binding.  Thin or nonstandard sizes, spiral or comb bindings do not stand up well in our setting.  Workbook or journal style books with papers designed to be filled in or torn out by the reader are not appropriate for library use.

If you would like us to consider your materials, please send a copy of your publication, either in print or electronic (PDF) format with professional reviews attached, to:

You can help aid us in making a decision by including a brief summary of any of the following information.

  • What is the content of the item?
  • Why is this item needed at TCCL?
  • Who is the intended audience?
  • What is the name of the author/artist/performer? Qualifications? Local?
  • When and where was this book published?
  • How can the library obtain a copy?

We are unable to return any copy sent to the library if we choose not to purchase copies.  We will treat your item as a donation. The disposition of donations is covered under our Gifts Policy.
