A Book Sale to Benefit Literacy Efforts in Tulsa County

March 26, 2024  - The annual Friends of the Helmerich Library book sale features five days to find your favorite new books.   The book sale begins with a special preview night for Friends of the Helmerich Library (FOHL) members on April 11, 5-8 p.m. at Helmerich Library, 5131 E. 91st St. Anyone may join the FOHL through a donation of $5 for an individual or $10 for a family.  The sale continues Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on April 12 and 13 and April 19 and 20.

Set Your Sights on the Sun During TCCL’s Solar Eclipse Celebration

March 13, 2024 - Join us for space activities and crafts as we safely watch the solar eclipse at the Broken Arrow Library, 300 W. Broadway, April 8, 12:30-2:30 p.m. A limited supply of solar eclipse glasses will be available for viewing at the event.   All ages can enjoy creating sidewalk chalk shadow art, face painting, photos with Buddy Bookworm, refreshments and touring the Bookmobile.

March 11, 2024   Almost three-quarters of a century have passed since the liberation of Auschwitz and the end of the war against the Jews … and yet we are once again standing at the threshold. Some 245,000 Holocaust survivors are still alive, but many of them were very young children during the Second World War.  Feb. 6, 2024 --  What is missing from the bookshelves of the world? Your perspective. Now is the time to be your own author and write your story.    Local wordsmiths are invited to enter the annual Adult Creative Writing Contest from Feb. 1-April 1 for a chance to win cash and have their stories shared. This annual event is sponsored by the Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries. The contest is open to any person 18 years or older who lives, works, attends school in Tulsa County or has a nonresident Tulsa City-County Library card.

Jan. 30, 2024  -  The annual Young People’s Creative Writing Contest from Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) gives young writers the opportunity to share their stories. With three age divisions in five different categories, TCCL encourages Tulsa County youths to stretch their imaginations and deepen their relationship with writing by telling their stories in their own words — or illustrations!

Raina Telgemeier to receive the 2024 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature

   Jan. 25, 2024                             New York Times bestselling author Raina Telgemeier is the winner of the Tulsa Library Trust’s 2024 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature. She will accept the award at a public presentation on Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. at Central Library, Fifth Street and Denver Avenue. She also will present awards to winners of the 2024 Young People’s Creative Writing Contest at the ceremony.
