2016 Interfaith Holocaust Commemoration to present "Close to Evil," featuring Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental

   In 1944, 9-year-old Tomi Reichental was deported from his native Slovakia to the notorious Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war, he eventually settled in Ireland, where he married, had a family and never spoke of his ordeal. Since breaking his silence, Reichental has come close to evil in the form of one of his former SS guards, and forged an unusual friendship with the granddaughter of a man who played a role in the murder of 35 members of his family.

Enter the Young People's Creative Writing Contest Beginning Feb. 1

     “Write every day.”  That is the advice any award-winning author gives to aspiring writers.  The continuous practice helps build essential storytelling skills as well as establishing a daily routine to fuel creativity.    Tulsa City-County Library’s annual Young People’s Creative Writing contest can help achieve a writing routine.  The contest is geared much like a publisher works.  You are given deadline, parameters and encouraged to submit your best story.

Bixby Library To Feature New Service Model

Bixby Library, 20 E. Breckenridge, will close for renovations Jan. 11 and reopen Jan. 19. Once reopened, the library will feature New Service Model updates to remain relevant for 21st-century library customers. Tavis Smiley To Receive Sankofa Freedom Award

Tavis Smiley, broadcaster, author, publisher, advocate and philanthropist, will receive the 2016 Sankofa Freedom Award, presented by Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center. He will accept the award Jan. 28, 2016 at 6 p.m., at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. Smiley will speak, answer questions and sign copies of his books, which are available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
