Families Invited to Back-to-School Community Resource Fair

Tulsa City-County Library and the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations are partnering to present the “Back-to-School Community Resource Fair” Aug. 18, 10-11:30 a.m. at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road. The first 200 children will receive free school supplies. This free come-and-go event will feature more than 35 local organizations helping to make sure students are ready to begin the new school year by offering beneficial services and resources.

Touch-A-Truck Event to Super Size Hardesty Regional Library

From kitchen cabinets to school auditoriums, everyday occurrences seem larger than life through a child’s eyes. Families are invited to explore and discover dozens of big trucks and automobiles during “Touch-A-Truck.” Tulsa City-County Library’s Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., will transform the parking lot into a child’s perfect playground, July 29, 9-11 a.m. The event is in conjunction with Tulsa City-County Library’s children’s, teen and adult summer reading programs. Touch-A-Truck is an exciting and hands-on family event.

Tulsa City-County Library Launches Three New Services for Expanded Online Learning and Entertainment

In an effort to connect library customers with more digital options for education and entertainment, Tulsa City-County Library is unveiling three new services that are free to use with a library card. Beginning today, eBook readers, future musicians and gamers will have the opportunity to expand their use of library services with more resources for learning. Each new added service is in response to customers’ suggestions and will be of interest to all library customers.

   In conjunction with the Mental Health Association Oklahoma’s 2016 National Zarrow Mental Health Symposium, Tulsa City-County Library is offering a communitywide reading initiative focusing on the nonfiction book “The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship and the Redemptive Power of Music” by Steve Lopez and the themes of mental illness and homelessness.

Tulsa City-County Library's Summer Reading Program for All Ages Nears Record Sign-Up

Tulsa City-County Library’s Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults is well on the way to exceeding sign-up numbers compared to previous years. Through June 16, a total of 37,607 readers of all ages have joined to keep the pages turning this summer; 31,004 children and teens have signed up, while 6,603 adults have joined the program.

Jeanne B. Goodwin Storytelling Festival Features Local Artists

Local artists Dorothy Dillard and Deborah Hunter are the featured storytellers for the 2016 Jeanne B. Goodwin Storytelling Festival. Families are invited to this celebration of words on July 6, 10 a.m., at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Rudisill Regional Library. Dillard brings Harriet Tubman to life as she recounts the struggles on the Underground Railroad. Hunter, a local poet and spoken-word artist, will delight all ages with her rendition of the book Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters.

Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center coordinator, Alicia Latimer, has been invited to the 2016 Just Governance for Human Security Conference in Caux, Switzerland. Along with the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture, Latimer will present the workshop “Healing History – An African-American Experience.”
