Take 5: Five Librarians, Five Books, Five Minutes

July 2015   Readers will enjoy discovering new authors and books during “Take Five: Five Librarians, Five Books, Five Minutes” at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., July 16, 7-8:30 p.m.  Each speaker will talk about five books and the connection to the theme, “Migrations,” which is the title of the adult summer reading program.  Sign up for the reading program at, guides.tulsalibrary.org/ASRP, to earn coupons for free treats as well as a chance to win a Kindle e-book reader.

Tulsa Shock to Present Storytime at Rudisill Regional Library

July 2015   Tulsa Shock, a presenting sponsor for Tulsa City-County Library’s children’s and teen summer reading programs, will take a timeout from the hard court for a storytime in the book stacks.   Storytime with the Tulsa Shock will tip off July 9, 3 p.m., at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford.  Readers will share their favorite children’s books, and talk about the importance of maintaining a strong mental and physical balance.

June 2015   With more than 20 years of experience as an award-winning storyteller, Kirk Waller will share stories through words, music and movement during a special library appearance.

Learn to Make Your Own Comics From Professional Artists and Storytellers

June 2015   Graphic novels and comics appeal to all ages by presenting a compelling story enhanced with original art that encourages the imagination.  Whether it is a single panel comic or a complete graphic novel, the message is clear: have fun with reading.   All ages are invited to explore the history of comics and learn to create their own stories during two free workshops.  Their workshops are part of Tulsa City-County Library’s summer reading program for children, teens and adults.

Storytime in the Park is Perfect for Families

June 2015   You know Tulsa City-County Library’s children’s summer reading program is beginning when families line the river’s edge for stories and songs.   Enjoy “Storytime in the Park,” Thursdays at 10 a.m. on May 28; June 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the QuikTrip Plaza at River Parks, 41st and Riverside.   Each program features interactive stories, songs and activities encouraging children to develop a love of reading.  Bring a blanket or chair to enhance the storytime comfort.    Scheduled performances include:

Rick Atkinson to receive 2015 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award

June 2015WHATThe Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award is an annual award given by the Tulsa Library Trust. Its purpose is to give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters. The award consists of a $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.
