Tulsa City-County Library Presented Oklahoma Quality Award for Pursuit of Excellence

   Tulsa City-County Library was awarded the 2014 Oklahoma Quality Award for Pursuit of Excellence from the Oklahoma Quality Foundation at a presentation in Oklahoma City featuring Gov. Mary Fallin.      Tulsa City-County Library is one of five recipients for 2014 and is the first library system in the state to win an Oklahoma Quality Award.  The award recognizes Oklahoma businesses and organizations for their achievement in quality, business performance and best practices.

Tulsa Library Trust Receives $600,000 Microsoft Technology Grant

   The Tulsa Library Trust received a $600,000 Microsoft Technology Software Grant during a special presentation celebrating the grand opening of the Microsoft Retail Store at Woodland Hills Mall.    The grant was awarded to expand Tulsa City-County Library’s focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and learning opportunities.

Tulsa Library Trust to Present 2015 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers' Literature to...

New York Times best-selling author Sharon Draper is the winner of the Tulsa Library Trust’s 2015 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature.  She will accept the award at a public presentation at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St., Aug. 28, 2015 at 7 p.m.  She also will present awards to winners of the 2015 Young People’s Creative Writing Contest awards at the ceremony.  Her visit culminates the 2015 children’s and teen summer reading programs.

Celebrate a Quinceañera With Tulsa City-County Library's Hispanic Resource Center

   Celebrate Tulsa City-County Library’s Hispanic Resource Center’s Quinceañera (15 year celebration) with a family day of crafts, dancing and celebrations Nov. 15 at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road.    The day begins with “Quinceañera Crafts” for ages 5-12, 10-10:45 a.m.  Families will learn about the Hispanic celebration as well as make crafts celebrating the Quinceañera.

Hardesty Regional Library Features New Service Model and Schedules Grand Reopening Celebration

   Tulsa City-County Library is embarking on the first stage of the Facilities Master Plan by updating libraries to better serve the 21st-century library customer.    After closing two-weeks for improvements, the Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., reopened Oct. 27 to welcome customers to experience the difference.   A grand reopening celebration is planned for Nov. 8, 10 a.m.-Noon.  Join us for refreshments to help celebrate the new look.  Family activities include a storytime at 10 a.m., Magician Chris Capstone at 10:30 a.m. and 3-D printing demonstration at 11:30 a.m.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month With a Visit From Author and Artist Carmen Lomas Garza

Award-winning author and artist Carmen Lomas Garza will visit Tulsa City-County Library to present two special programs in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.    Spend an exciting evening with artist Carmen Lomas Garza at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.    Garza will share her beautiful picture books, talk about her life and works and celebrate the Hispanic Resource Center’s quinceanera (15th anniversary).  Copies of her works will be available for purchasing.

Tulsa City-County Library to Honor Award-Winning Author and Storyteller Joseph Bruchac

   Joseph Bruchac will receive the Tulsa Library Trust’s “Festival of Words Writers Award” March 7, 2015, 10:30 a.m., at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St.  His award presentation will be followed by a day of educational American Indian family events from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.    The award, presented every other year, consists of a $5,000 honorarium and an engraved crystal.  Previous winners include: 2001, Joy Harjo (Muscogee Creek); 2003, Vine DeLoria Jr.

Celebrate Teen Read Month with Free Comics, Author Visits and Star Wars Reads Day

   Teen Read Month is a national celebration for teens to read for the fun of it.  A chance to break away from the textbooks and enjoy programs designed for them.    Free events and author visits are planned throughout Tulsa City-County libraries to showcase library resources for young adults.  Programs are designed to offer entertainment as well as a dose of education.
