Summer Reading Program Perfect for Children and Teens

Tulsa City-County’s Library 2014 children’s and teen summer reading programs will take families around the word while rewarding young readers with tasty and fun prizes. The free annual program is ongoing May 27-Aug. 2. To sign up, children and teens, ages newborn to 18, can pick up a reading log at any of Tulsa City-County Library to record the titles of the books they read and the visits they make to the library during the summer. The theme for the children’s program is “Fizz, Boom, Read” and the tween/teen program theme is “Spark a Reaction.”

Campaign will support renovations to Tulsa Central Library; Tulsa Library Trust has raised $28 million from private donors TULSA, OK—The Tulsa City-County Library and Tulsa Library Trust announced today the launch of the public phase of Tulsa Central Library Renewed fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising $1 million from the Tulsa community. Ann Patchett to Receive 2014 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award

WHAT The Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award is an annual award given by the Tulsa Library Trust. Its purpose is to give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters.   The award consists of a $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book.

"The Bully Plays" Presented by Sun Caste Reader's Theater Group

Beware bullies! Aggressive behavior, in any form, will not be tolerated. All ages are invited to experience “The Bully Plays” presented by the Sun Caste Reader’s Theater Group, May 1, 7-9 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St. “The Bully Plays” is an exploration of the devastating impact of bullying. Presented with permission from Dramatic Publishing Services, the six vignettes are designed to underscore the tragic consequences of bullying and are performed via reader’s theater by young people ages 8-18.

"Stand Against Racism: 1921 Tulsa In Flames" Featured at Rudisill Regional Library

     Long after the smoldering remains from the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot cooled, a veil of secrecy hung over the tragedy for generations.  The event was omitted from U.S. and Oklahoma history books, but the terror remained alive in the minds of those who lived through the torment.
