Library to Honor Oklahoma Screenwriter and Filmmaker Sterlin Harjo

   Sterlin Harjo, Seminole/Muscogee (Creek), will receive the Tulsa Library Trust’s “Festival of Words Writers Award” March 2, 10:30 a.m. at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.  His award presentation will be followed by a day of educational American Indian family events from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.    Before his award, a free showing of Harjo’s movie “Barking Water” is scheduled for Feb. 28, 7 p.m., University of Tulsa, Lorton Performance Center, Recital Hall, 550 S. Gary Place.  This movie screening is free and open to the public.

Free Music Downloads with Your Tulsa City-County Library Card

   Have you downloaded your three free songs this week from Tulsa City-County Library?    To help connect library customers with the music they enjoy, TCCL will begin a six-month pilot program using the downloadable music service Freegal Music, starting Jan. 28.  You can find songs from many of today's chart-topping musicians.  With dozens of genres and more than 3 million songs from 10,000 music labels, including Sony Music Entertainment, Freegal Music is designed for all musical preferences.  New songs and labels are added weekly to keep the selection fresh.

   The Great Decisions discussion series explores how remote global challenges are increasingly impacting our communities.    A kickoff is planned for Jan. 27, 2013 at 2:30 p.m., in Central Library’s Aaronson Auditorium, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue.    The featured speaker is Robert H. Donaldson, Trustees professor of political science and director of the Russian studies program at the University of Tulsa.  His topic for the Great Decision’s kickoff is “Assessing the Limits of U.S. Intervention: Should We Mind Our Own Business?”

Model Car Show Features Mini Versions of Real Life Dreams

   Model car building is the perfect opportunity for children of all ages to build their dream car. Whether it is a classic 1960s muscle car or a 1940s Ford farm truck, model cars are like a blank canvas for the automobile artist.    The Friends of the Rudisill Regional Library, Woodrow Street Hobbies, Liberty Baptist Church and Top Shelf Models present the 1/25-scale “Model Car Show and Competition” 1-4 p.m., Jan. 21, at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. 30th Anniversary Interfaith Trialogue Series to Explore the Future of Interfaith Dialogue

   Join local religious leaders and experts as they address the topic “Are You Godwired? High Tech + High Touch: The Future of Interfaith Dialogue” at the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice’s 2013 Interfaith Trialogue Series in February.    Sponsored by OCCJ and funded in part by the Tulsa Library Trust’s Alfred E. Aaronson Lecture Series Endowment, the three-part discussion series is scheduled on Sundays, Feb. 3, Feb. 10 and Feb. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. at varying locations. A 30th Anniversary Dinner will be held after the last session on Feb. 17.
