Walter Echo-Hawk to be inducted in Circle of Honor followed by monthlong series of free, family programs

   Jan. 13, 2020   Tulsa City-County Library’s American Indian Resource Center will induct Walter Echo-Hawk into the Circle of Honor during a special presentation March 7, 2020, 10:30 a.m. at Zarrow Regional Library, 2224 W. 51st St.   The Circle of Honor award presentation begins a month-long celebration honoring the achievements and accomplishments of Native Americans. Programs will be held throughout TCCL locations during March. All library events are free and open to the public.

Aspiring writers encouraged to participate in library’s Young People’s Creative Writing Contest

   Jan. 6, 2020   Tulsa City-County Library’s annual Young People’s Creative Writing Contest gives young writers the opportunity to make their voices heard. With three age divisions in five different categories, TCCL encourages Tulsa County youths to stretch their imaginations and deepen their relationship with writing by telling their stories in their own words.

Great Decisions series encourages global awareness with foreign policy discussions

   Jan. 6, 2020   The Friends of the Tulsa City-County Libraries invites local thinkers to discuss current events in foreign policy at the Great Decisions series kickoff. Participants can learn more about the Great Decisions program, get connected with other globally concerned citizens and acquire thought-provoking information through a keynote address, group discussions and print materials available for purchase.

Equality icon Anita Hill to receive 2020 Sankofa Freedom Award

   Dec. 20, 2019   Anita Hill, native Oklahoman attorney, author, educator and advocate for civil and women’s rights, will receive the 2019 Sankofa Freedom Award, presented by Tulsa City-County Library’s African-American Resource Center and the Tulsa Library Trust.   Hill will accept the award and give a presentation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

Come together to celebrate Kwanzaa with TCCL

   Dec. 9, 2019   Honor Kwanzaa and its foundational principle “umoja” (unity) with the Tulsa City-County Library at two special events focused on togetherness and community strength.   Celebrate the Kwanzaa holiday with simple and fun crafts to share for the season on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Suburban Acres Library, 4606 N. Garrison. Limited supplies are provided. All ages are welcome.

Katherine Applegate to receive the 2020 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature

   Nov. 18, 2019   New York Times best-selling author Katherine Applegate is the winner of the Tulsa Library Trust’s 2020 Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Readers’ Literature.    She will accept the award at a public presentation at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St., Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m.  She also will present awards to winners of the 2020 Young People’s Creative Writing Contest at the ceremony.

American biographer Stacy Schiff to receive 35th annual Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award

   Nov. 14, 2019   Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer and journalist Stacy Schiff is coming to Tulsa Dec. 6 and 7 to receive the 2019 Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award.

Celebrate children’s literature with illustrator Christian Robinson at 2019 Books to Treasure

   Nov. 14, 2019   Tulsa City-County Library treasures books, but treasures children even more. TCCL invites children of all ages to celebrate the beauty and power of children’s literature at the 17th anniversary Books to Treasure program, featuring illustrator Christian Robinson, on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., in Connor’s Cove.

   Oct. 31, 2019   You have been cleared for takeoff and can soar into adventure during “Mad Science Guys: Fantasy of Flight” on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library’s Connor’s Cove, 8316 E. 93rd St.   Discover what it takes to fly with the Mad Science Guys and meet a real-life pilot and namesake for Connor’s Cove, Connor Clardy.
